Liverpool have been superb so far this season.

Not only are Liverpool going strong in the Premier League, but Arne Slot’s side are also making a huge impact in the UEFA Champions League.

The Reds are five points ahead of second-placed and defending champions Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table at the moment.

Liverpool have also won all four of their UEFA Champions League League Stage games.

One of the main reasons why the Reds are doing so under manager Slot is the performance of Ryan Gravenberch.

Gravenberch could not make a massive impact under Jurgen Klopp last season, but the 22-year-old Netherlands international is flourishing under Slot in a more defensive role in midfield.

The youngster made 12 starts in the Premier League last season. Gravenberch, backed by Robbie Savage to play as a 10 as well, has started all 11 league matches this campaign and has also played in all four UEFA Champions League games.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has been hugely impressed with Gravenberch and has included him in his Premier League Team of the Season so far.

Shearer wrote about Gravenberch on PremierLeague.com: “He’s adapted really well to a slightly more defensive role this season, and his dominance in midfield is a big reason why Liverpool have been so good in both attack and defence.”

What has changed with Ryan Gravenberch at Liverpool this season

Gravenberch had injury problems last season. It was also the first time that the Netherlands international midfielder was playing in the Premier League

Ryan Gravenberch’s elder brother Danzell Gravenberch, who plays for FC Den Bosch, has given his take on why the Liverpool midfielder is doing so well.

Danzell Gravenberch told AD about Ryan Gravenberch: “It feels like he got sporting revenge just by letting his feet do the talking,

That’s Ryan. In the past, Ryan had moments when he seemed to dream a little. That was probably because it was easy for him when he was young. He didn’t always have to do that much.

“He was sometimes absent for a while. But that has really changed. I don’t see those moments anymore. Ryan has become a guy who knows exactly what he can do.

“They used to talk about his nonchalant attitude. But if you look at the distances he’s covered, you’ll see that he’s really not that nonchalant. Maybe it’s because of his smile!”
