Arne Slot has been discussing the performance of Ryan Gravenberch who was forced to play at centre-back in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Fulham.

Liverpool salvaged a point at home to Marco Silva’s team despite having ten men for the majority of the match following Andrew Robertson’s early sending-off. The Reds had to come from behind twice to avoid defeat and rescue a point.

Gravenberch was once again superb for the Merseyside club despite being used in a role which he had never played before in his senior career.

Arne Slot impressed by ‘outstanding’ Ryan Gravenberch

Ryan Gravenberch continued to show why he is quickly becoming one of Liverpool’s most important players as the midfielder impressed at centre-back. Arne Slot was forced to alternate his defence following a red card awarded to Robertson in just the 17th minute.

The Dutch international dropped back to partner Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in a back three and this set-up managed to keep Fulham at bay. After the game, Liverpool supporters praised Slot’s in-game management. Gravenberch was eventually allowed to move back into midfield after Jarell Quansah was subbed on in the 70th minute, although the visitors scored a second just a few minutes after the change.

When asked about Gravenberch slotting in at centre-back, Slot told the media: “Impressed, like everyone who was in the stadium or saw the game. Ryan did outstanding again today. Without the ball, he was mostly in our last line, had to play sometimes against a nine, against wingers who are really fast. And with the ball, he came into the midfield. An outstanding performance from him.”

How good was Ryan Gravenberch in Liverpool’s draw vs Fulham?

The 22-year-old managed a 96 percent pass accuracy against Fulham as he controlled the tempo for Slot’s team. Gravenberch was often seen driving the ball forward from deep as Liverpool pushed for an equaliser.

He was heavily involved against the Cottagers with 83 touches in total despite spending most of the game in the back line. The Dutch star showed his versatility and terrific defensive ability as he won all three of his aerial duels along with making three interceptions and two total tackles.
